Fire Fighter’s Charity Cup Results 2022
Essex agreed to host a National event for the first time in a long time, the national committee asked us to organise the Fire fighter’s Charity cup for 2022. Stoke By Nayland Gainsborough course was in great condition, considering the dry spell the whole country has been going through. Greens holding well and putting true. The fairways running fast, if you were lucky enough to get a forward bounce! Both days the weather couldn’t have been better, short tee shirts and sun cream everywhere. Before the first days competition, all entries got to try their luck at a nearest the pin in the simulator, The hard 157yrd 14th hole at Wentworth was the chosen hole, the winner with an impressive 1ft 7 inches was Tony Thompson from London. The first days round had the teams play better ball Stapleford, off of 85% handicap. Some good scores were made but as always it would all come down to the singles. Second days singles were made slightly easier with some of the tees being brought forward. With Handicaps at 95%, some good scores started to come in. As always there was plenty of laughter and good sprit throughout the event, old friends reminiscing, and new friends being made.
The presentations were made by Abby from sponsors Stedair, and senior officer Jim Palmer from ECFRS. The Main prizes were as follows:

Thanks to all that made the effort to attend this event, and thanks to the members of the Essex golf section for their help in ensuring this event was a success.
The Gainsborough course measures over 7,000 yards with a Par of 71. The undulating terrain and four substantial lakes challenge the skills of golfers of all abilities. The 10th requires a drive and second shot over the same lake, when played from the back tee, and has been voted one of the most outstanding holes in East Anglia by the Professional Golf Association (PGA).
