The curtain raiser for the 2018 Firesport UK Golf Section season was played on the 19th & 20th April 2018 at Machynys Peninsula Golf Club, Llanelli sponsored by Rosenbauer and Weber Rescue.
The competition was played in glorious sunshine, with 71 players on a well prepared course with excellent greens, especially after the awful weather throughout the winter in the Llanelli area. Some exceptional golf was played, and some disasters as well. Although sunny the main defence of the Machynys man made links is the wind, and on occasions throughout the 2 days we had some strong gusts and swirling conditions.
Over the 2 days a worthy winner was crowned as Nett and Gross Champion for 2018, Russ Shires from East Sussex shooting gross 72, nett 68 on day 1, and following that up with a gross 76, nett 72 on day 2 to finish with an overall score of gross 148, nett 140 being 4 under par.
