Charity Cup Report
This years’ Charity Cup was hosted by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service at Portal G&CC in Tarporley Cheshire. 24 teams from across the UK set out on the parkland courses over 2 days.
Day 1 – Pairs better-ball stableford was the format. After 18 holes of competitive golf. It was close at the top of the leaderboard – 2 teams led the way on 78 points – GMC 2 and North Yorkshire. With another 4 teams on 77 points. One of the highlights of the day was a hole-in-one for GMC 2’s Doc Roberts on the 17th hole of the Premier course.
Day 2 – Singles Stableford with 3 out of 4 scores to count. There were a few weary legs having to walk to some of the starting holes on this shotgun start. But the game got underway on time at 10am. The Championship course is a long track but is more forgiving that it’s smaller sibling on day 1. However only 7 players managed to break the par of 36 points. The pick of the bunch was Mark Davison of South Yorkshire with a 41 point total. Another highlight was yet another hole-in-one. This time it was Piaras McElduff of Cheshire who holed out on the 1st hole, a par 4!!
