Rosenbauer sponsored National Individual Competition
Results and report
On the 7 – 8 September Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service hosted the ‘Fire Sport UK National Individual Golf Championships’ sponsored by Rosenbauer at Whittington Heath Golf Club near Lichfield. The event took place over 36 holes ( 18 each day) and welcomed over 60 players from fire services across the UK
Over a year in the planning, we ended up with two days of glorious weather on one of Staffordshire’s ‘hidden gems’ with some excellent and some not so excellent scores being returned.
Due to the generosity of our sponsor Rosenbauer we were able to have a quality prize table with clothing , shoe's , golf spec's , TOMTOM watch , bags ,clubs etc .
The event was a huge success with the course presenting a fair but testing challenge . Just as important was the catching up with old friends and new friendships that were formed during the two days on and off the course . It served as great networking event for staff of the UK fire services to meet colleagues share stories from each others brigades .
The winner of the main competition (Nett) was :
1st - Paul Richins Staffs - 136
2nd - Dave Brown Staffs - 137
3rd - Lee Schofield South Yorkshire - 142/countback 4th - Lee Everton South Yorkshire - 142/countback 5th - Paul Goddard Hampshire - 142 on countback
The gross placings were :
1st - Russ Shires East Sussex - 147
2nd - Phil Dermott GMR - 154
3rd - Ian Hendry Cleveland - 155 /countback 4th - Chris Briggs Notts - 155/countback 5th - Lee Chape Tyne & Wear - 155/countback
We had a few minor prizes including best gross score over two days on the par 3's which at just one over par was achieved by only 3 players ( Russ Shires/Lee Chape & Ian Hendry) Most birdies over two days - Mark Riley with 5 Nearest the pin winners were - Lee Everton / John Waller /Jamie Dawes/Alistair Johnston
David Greensmith (director) attended the event to represent the Staffs Fire & Rescue Service on behalf of the CFO to hand out prizes to the winners and he also presented the club a SFRS shield as a thanks to them and a gift to Gareth Johns the sponsor for their continued support of golf within the service across the UK .
Club president and sponsor Gareth Johns also assisted with prize presentation where the usual speeches were made thanking all who played their part in making this event the success . Look forward to next years event in South Wales at Machynys Peninsula nr Llanelli .
