Bradford Golf Club was the host venue for the newly revised format of the annual England v Scotland matchplay fixture.
The practice day was a bit wet at times but the greens were the talk of the day following practice.
Both teams arrived at the clubhouse freshly faced following an early night at the neighbouring Hollins Hall. They took their pictures in their tops which were kindly sponsored by Jed Howorth from GMC. The weather was fantastic with most in shorts and the Scottish suffering from sunburn in the tropical conditions. There were some very close matches with the usual twists and turns and England led by 3 with 6 ½ points to 3 ½ points.
An early start saw a cold and cloudy morning to commence the singles. Eventually the sun burned through and also burned away the heavy morning dew. The freshly mown greens with the hidden burrows proved a stern test. As the results came in and the balcony became busier, there were a number of games that were going to the final green with a great view of the 18th.
Unfortunately, Scotland had two people that were unable to commit due to a funeral and a late stand in from Lee McDigweed and Paul McAdams from Herts made up the numbers. There was no question of their integrity as they safely delivered 3 points for Scotland.
The Red side of England populated with points early doors and this continued as the matches completed. England won the 2022 event with a dominant 20 ½ to 9 ½.
A massive thanks to all that competed and the hospitality received from the staff at Bradford Golf Club who made us all feel so welcome. Thanks to the greenkeeping team who presented the course in superb condition given the recent warm weather and heavy rain leading up to the event.
