Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were proud to host the TenCate - National Pairs 2026 held at
Brocket Hall Golf Club The Melbourne Course
on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th of September 2026
The competition was kindly sponsored by Tencate, with additional sponsorship generously provided by Paul Taylor and Frogtape. Thanks to the efforts of Hertfordshire’s Lee Digweed, the competition was able to take place at the prestigious Brocket Hall, with the Melbourne Course providing the challenge for both days.
The event attracted an impressive 106 players, comprising 53 pairs, with serving and retired firefighters from across the United Kingdom taking part. Both days were played as Better Ball Medal, with the scores of both players in each pair added together to produce the overall team score.
A Tale of Two Days
The Melbourne Course certainly lived up to its reputation on the opening day. Set within the beautiful grounds of Brocket Hall, the course features a number of holes where players must negotiate the River Lee, which winds its way through the estate.
Unfortunately, the weather added an extra dimension to an already challenging course, with rain lasting for much of Tuesday. Conditions made club selection and approach shots particularly difficult, while the numerous water hazards claimed their fair share of golf balls throughout the day. Wednesday provided a welcome change, with the sun making an appearance and much-improved playing conditions. The better weather allowed the players to enjoy the challenge of the course in the dry, although the River Lee and other hazards continued to provide plenty of opportunities for the course to test even the most accurate golfers.
Across the two days there was some excellent golf on display, with a number of pairs battling it out right to the end. The final results reflected just how close the competition had been.
