The annual 4 Nations Championship took place at Old Thorns Golf Resort, Guildford, on 8–9 July, bringing together teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for two days of competitive golf in exceptionally challenging conditions.
The biggest talking point throughout the event was the weather. Temperatures consistently reached around 32°C, creating a stern test of both golfing ability and endurance. The hot, dry conditions left the course playing firm and fast, demanding accuracy, patience and excellent course management from all competitors. Despite the challenging conditions, the standard of golf remained exceptionally high, with all four nations producing some excellent performances over the two days.
Several individual performances stood out during the championship. England's Tony Leslie and Lee Digweed, produced a superb display to win the Gross Pairs title, while Scotland's Andy Holland and Kenny Alcroft claimed the Nett Pairs honours after two consistently impressive rounds. In the individual competitions, Scotland's Dougie McMaster delivered the best gross performance to take the Gross Singles title, while Northern Ireland's James McDonagh earned the Nett Singles trophy with an outstanding score. The Birdie Cup was deservedly won by Wales' Shane McDonnell, whose excellent scoring throughout the event saw him top the birdie standings.
The championship was played in a fantastic spirit, with fierce but friendly competition reflecting the strong camaraderie between the four nations. Thanks go to Old Thorns Golf Resort for presenting the course in excellent condition despite the extreme weather, and to everyone involved in organising another successful championship. Special thanks must go to Riskhub for their continued support and sponsorship of this flagship event.
After a closely contested tournament, Wales emerged as worthy champions, finishing 7 shots clear of the field to claim the 4 Nations title. England secured second place, followed by Scotland in third, with Northern Ireland finishing fourth.
Congratulations to Wales on a well-deserved victory, and to all the individual prize winners for their outstanding achievements. The 2026 4 Nations Championship once again proved to be a memorable event, showcasing competitive golf, sportsmanship and friendship at its very best.
